Letter from Mayor about Grace Stevens

Good Afternoon All,

Firstly thank you to Dyane for sharing and to the WILPF for properly honouring your oldest member and survivor  of the dynamic, relentless and happy duo I always referred to as “the two Graces”.  Secondly to Grace who I trust Dyane or one of you will convey this message,  best wishes from your Mayor and Council and thank you for living a life that has always been an example for girls and women to follow. You long ago chose to work for peace and social and economic justice. That meant you were always facing opposition most often from males but have done so with determination, humour and yes, forgive me, grace.

No better time to honour you than International Women’s Day so bask a bit in the sunshine of appreciation for a life well lived. You have earned the accolades so enjoy this and all of us look forward to those better days when we can hug you and thank you in person.

The banning of nuclear weapons becomes law on January 22, 2021 !

Please write a letter to the Prime Minister and others. sample below!!

Canada has still refused to sign the treaty banning nuclear weapons which will become law on January 22nd. We need to overwhelm them with letters.

The Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister
House of Commons
Ottawa, Ontario.

Dear Prime Minister Trudeau,
Canadians need you to take action now on the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. I am writing on behalf of the Nanaimo chapter of WILPF (Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom). We ask that you do the right thing and sign this treaty which now has been signed and ratified by the requisite 50 countries and will officially come into force January 22, 2021.

Time is running out for Canada to come on board and sign the Treaty. As it is, by taking no action, we stand with the minority of countries aligned with nuclear weapons states.

It is significant that at this time the majority of the countries of the world have now signed this treaty. We must make January 22, 2021 a day of celebration and not a day of regret for Canadians.
Yours truly
Dyane Brown
Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, Nanaimo branch.
